There is scant little you need to know about this undisclosed NYC Subway tunnel location: it is the original suicide spot. It is a trackless segment of tunnel that is wrong in every possible way. Next to no one seems to know for sure why it exists, not even the track workers we gingerly walked passed in the tunnel on the way to find it.

NOTE: It sometimes takes a short while for comments to be approved - unfortunately there's a lot of spam comments that come in. I absolutely love when y'all share personal stories of friends relatives etc who worked in these places. It really helps capture what these places were like before they closed up shop.

If you're feeling salty, argumentative comments completely devoid of facts (supply links to support your argument) will not be published. Got a case to state? come with the details.

New Utrecht Av. I have said enough.

  2. Bruce Thorpe says:

Was this, perhaps, a bell mouth from the BMT’s 4th Avenue trunk to the proposed tunnels under the Narrows to Staten Island? I remember reading about an aborted attempt to bore two tubes to that end,but pressure from the PRR’s CEO killed it.

  3. Bad Guy Joe says:

Not this one. I’ve seen old news clippings showing that a construction shaft was built in owl’s head park, but the project quickly ended. I haven’t done too much research into that project. If the shaft still exists no one I know of has gotten into it.

  4. Gusto says:

I’ve wondered about this spot for years. I think this tunnel is the original construction allignment of the West End line South of 36th st. The door sign gives it away. The original ROW was supposed to run a block or two South or something but they chose the route it has now that merges with the SBK. It certainly would be ‘suicide’ to get to. If its not there then im fuckin stumped!

  5. Ed the train guy says:

On the door there’s a reference to I think ’38 st’. I believe the 4 avenue line was originally supposed to branch off a little further south to the West End line of where the D branches off today immediately south of 36 st station, which is why that major station only has one entrance. And I believe the southbound connection would have gone UNDER the main line, not over it, as the current connection does. Perhaps this photo is that?

  6. Richard Ramiro says:

It may be the sealed up tunnels along the Bmt West End Line prior to 36th Street?

  7. duster says:

i painted there da other night did not know what was behind door number 1,nor did i have the master key on me,,few other doors i need to go back and open up,,must be censors near by,someone from above sent track workers, they noticed a fill in on my d\ thats all i got done but i heard one of them say thats a new fill in,,sounded like he was too familiar with the graffiti scene,,they did not dare go off the beaten path,so i stayed away from that end and headed down into the abbys,it is by far one of the most spooky ones ive ever entered,,,becareful dont go….duster
