Stuck Bridge, Basically Abandoned.

The South Front Street Bridge in Elizabeth, NJ is just plain awesome. Of ill repair and repeatedly left in the open position in recent years, this bridge basically goes from nowhere to nowhere. It’s located right near the former location of Chemical Control Corporation, a notorious superfund site.

Years ago I drove across this bridge a time or two. It always struck me as a piece of infrastructure who’s time had passed, with a questionable future for both the bridge and the area surrounding it – both victims of a sordid history better explained in depth over at Bridges NYC (which is, of course, an awesome blog).
