Board Registration and Why Your Not Cool Enough
March 5th, 2012 by Control Comments to this postIf you’re one of those people that likes signing up for web boards to babble online with like-minded freaks, behind a firewall that keeps your conversations relatively private, then chances are you’ve tried to sign up for our board, and chances are you’ve not gotten in.
Believe it or not, this isn’t because we hate you.
Board registration has been closed to new members for months now due to spammers. Every single time we open to new sign ups, we get hundreds of spam registrations trying to post advertisements for malware, viruses, and other schemes. Frankly, we do not have time to police this crap.
Still though, we don’t want to turn away interested, smart minds. So we’ve opened up registration again for a week. To get in, you’ve got to answer one of 3 challenge questions. These questions are basically un-googleable. if you know anything about exploring in NYC, you’ll be able to answer them. If not, you won’t.
Note that we’re only leaving registration open THIS WEEK, to test the new system. Once you create your account – you better use it. Post something smart-ish and useful on the board so we know you’re not a spammer. Otherwise your account will be deleted.
Yes, this isn’t the most user-friendly system in the world. But good things come to those that can hop through the hoops – and for free mind you. I’ve toyed with the idea of charging access to the web board.
If you’re one of our spammers, might I suggestion you simply buy advertising from us instead? We’ll take any ads. We’ll plaster them all over the site at a rate of $500,000.00 Per week – payable in cash. Reply in the comments if interested.

Drop me an email of those quiz questions for signing up are baffling – I won’t begrudge you if you don’t know them (they’re pretty nyc-nerdy)
