Greenpoint Terminal Warehouses – a decade after the fire

Greenpoint Terminal is the gift that keeps on giving, even a decade later.

On this day 10 years ago, a massive fire consumed a huge portion of the abandoned greenpoint terminal complex. After this fire, I had no real interest in exploring what was left. Besides, most of the buildings that did survive contained businesses, and I’m not one to break into buildings still in use.

However, a few weeks ago, I stumbled across an open abandoned portion of this complex that I had never ventured into. Ironically it is perhaps the most iconic of the remaining buildings. It is perhaps the only one to be clearly labeled as belonging to the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouses.

Behind the roll-down gates is a massive wide open area. This space was previously used to store and maintain buses (for a charter and low-budget travel company similar to Fung-Wah).

Today, is is completely empty, except for two large former government owned maintenance trucks. One clearly used to belong to the Department of Transportation (being painted Yellow), while the other belonged to the MTA (white with blue stripe). Both looked like they might need some work. Their current owner is ‘Zev co’, likely one of the companies owned by the Joshua Guttman (who owns all of these buildings).

Checking out this previously un-seen building was like a trip down memory lane. So many days and nights were spent climbing around here. Some of the friends I shared adventures with here remain active explorers, while others have moved on. Where will any of us be 10 years from now? Will anything be left of this place?

Time will tell.
