I keep my explorations on the legitimate side, gaining permission, taking tours with workers, etc. I enjoy doing this because of the architecture, history, uniqueness, and photography found in these hidden places throughout NYC. Here in NYC the LTV community of explorers are indispensable because of their experience with these places, knowledge of the systems, caving experience, etc.
