Bergen Arch and Tunnel Club

One could research and write a load about this spot, but I'm too lazy to do that at the moment. All you need to know is this: The bergen arches is a man made valley through Jersey City. It was blasted out by the erie railroad as a suppliment to a tunnel that runs parallel to it. This tunnel, completed in 1861, is ancient - and still very active with CSX freights.
The arches though (so named for the arched stone roadway bridges taht pass above it) lay dormant. There has been much talk of how to best reuse it - as either an extension of the new light rail lines, a roadway, or something else entirely - like a park a la the High Line in NYC.
While the future of this spot lays in uncertainty, there are those of us who enjoy it just as it is today, and hope things never change...
