Blown Boiler Camp. Upstate NY.

The blown up building...

one of the many cottages to be found on campus.

Walking up to the big building...
Big building's interior. Vast and empty.

It was new years 1992, if I recall correctly. The dead of winter spent in the dead of nowhere: a country cabin perhaps 80 miles outside NYC, owned by the parents of a high school acquaintance. It was located at the end of a dirt road, complete with large dips and hills. The entire crew was there, drinking our lush asses off. It's no surprise that most of the weekend was a blur.

The next day though, a trip was made into the woods. We walked down a a path, climbed over some outcroppings, and eventually arrived at the Blair Witch like destination: What stood before us apparently an abandoned summer camp. It had to have been closed down during the 50's or 60's, considering the amount of rust on the basketball court, and the condition of the houses.

We walked through one of the house with me tagging along the way. It was a fairly large house, with broken out windows and sturdy floors. Nothing was left behind though, except for some blinds flapping in the arctic breeze of the broken windows.

Further along there was a large, large concrete structure. It looked like a modern school building, though much of it's front end (probably made of glass) was gone. It was apparently used as either a lunchroom or gymnasium.

Next to this building was a house who's innards were ripped apart. Rumor was something exploded inside. The fact that only the front and back of the building remained goes along with the theory.

There may have been more buildings here, located deeper into the woods. The lunchroom type building was far to large to only have been used by 2 houses of campers. We didn't explore much further due to the freezing cold weather. We walked down to the lake, and followed that back to our cabin. I still have a small scar on my left hand from falling on the solid ice.

Unfortunately, I don't even recall the town this campground was located in, let alone any history of it or if it still exists, some 10 years later at the time of my writing this. The scar and photos are all I've got to offer.
