Big and Hasidic GhettoRiffic!!!.
NOTE: For anyone who is too dumb to figure it out, this page is merely a bit of construction documentation and observation. It is by no means meant to be anti-hasid or anti jew for that matter. For what it's worth, I'd say half the people that we explore with are jewish. Should that matter? No. Anyone spreading rumors is just a playa hating little bitch spending too much time online and not enough time actually doing something at least mildly interesting to the rest of the world. That said, Read on:

NYC is home to an ever increasingly large hasidic community. From a casual observers view, this is a very atypical population. Why do they all dress the same? have the same hair styles, etc? While we won't go into a long sociological rant here, we will describe the physical evidence: a once blighted urban neighborhood that has been settled by an increasingly large hasidic population. Where there were once old lots and burned out buildings, the hasids have swarmed, taking over the entire area by building a massive number of apartment buildings to be rented exclusively to other hasids. This slow, silent invasion is often not met with a red carpet. New windows in buildings under construction are often and quickly broken by rock throwing youth from the nearby minority ghettos. Still they build though, replacing the windows and eventually inhabiting the buildings in mass numbers. Then the next wave of construction takes place, pushing the population further into the ghetto - reshaping the social and physical landscape at the business end of a bulldozer.

Curious, we took a little tour of several of these construction sites over a span of many nights. What we found was not what we expected...

Of the many buildings we toured, this was the only one with an elavator. Note the narrow hallways... how is one to get furniture in and out? The apartments were shockingly small. Bedrooms of 6-8 feet seemed common. How can anyone live in such small spaces?

Elevator motors...

These stairs present in a large, open building who's future use is not entirely clear. Very high ceilings were present, as well as a trash filled basement which curiously contained no stairs into it.

Elecricity is already running here. The steel walling is already in place and soon to be ready for drywall. Note the ceiling and crossbeams. Atop the corrigated steel ceiling will be a layer of concrete.Should make for some durible long lasting structure...
