5 hours at Mc Kay's: Ghetto Loft Raid 2003
Often times the best exploration trips will be those that are completely unplanned - 'targets of opportunity". This was the exact case when we tagged along with the large, mysterious and often misrepresented members of "Clue Patrol" into the ghettos of Brooklyn. It was here, in the middle of nowhere, that we arrived at 2 very similar old warehouse buildings standing across the street from each other that have since been converted to loft spaces. The populations of these huge buildings are almost entirely composed of young white hipsters who party like it's the late 70's. Break it down, rip it up, throw it the fuck out the window. The buildings are a scene into themselves. One building is clean and renovated, while the other is coated with graffiti on many doors and hallways. Tags from all the most current writers, Goal, NeckFace, the BP crew - and now the Clue Patrol, could be found here. The party we dipped in on featured some outstanding music, Joker 5 Speed playing live downstairs, & and our favorite DJ Dyztort spinning upstairs. Free Beer, Blow, a large number of your best peoples, and a huge building or 2 with some hidden secrets to wander around all night long. Can you ask for a better night?

Long Hallways - another loft behind each graffitied doorway, and other oddities, such as a Mortal Kombat arcade game, tucked into one hallway corner.

The upper floor hallways of the graffitied building are still being rebuilt.

We noticed a few hot water heaters in rooms off of each floor's hallway. This is, to say the least, curious. As we went downstairs towards the basement, we came across this odd scene.

B&B, Clue style?

Bagz, Clue Sticker...

Up on the roof: random like minded party wanders accumulate to drink, throw pennies over the side, and tag up in krylon clouding bliss.

Looking down on the street below.

Heading up, the stairs are coated with graf, stocked with construction supplies.

The backyard of the graffitied building is full of trash and furniture. It was as if when residents get bored of there furnishings that they would toss it straight out the windows.

Hoses go down the stairs, to a moist basement level of dirt and cobwebs.

We followed the hoses down...

...and found out why there are water heaters everywhere: the boiler has been under water for years. Only now is it being pumped out. With several feet of water left to be removed, you can see by the rust lines how far up it once stood. (while hard to tell from this photo, the boiler was massive, encased in a large stone walled room.
