Atlantic Ave. Tunnel: Ar Subterraneau Nov. 10 2002 documention of crowds. -- 11/10/2002
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Type: Tunnel Party
Notes: Below is a little bit of photo documentation of the Nov. 10 2002 "Society for Creative Preservation" event. the event was basically an art exhibit held within the old atlantic avenue tunnel (of which I was one of the included artists). Having received major press coverage, an absolutely huge amount of people lined up for a legal shot at climbing down a manhole..This is not to say the day went without a hitch. There was only one entrance/exit, leading to a huge line backing way down the street 4 or 5 blocks. The humidity within the tunnel was unbearable, and before the event even had a chance to start, the local PD arrived wondering just why the fuck there were all these trucks blocking a lane of traffic on a busy city street. There were suppose to be more events within the tunnel, to the tune of at least 4 per year, but this never materialized due to a few ego clashes. In the end, this one time only event has yet to be repeated. It was both fun and taxing to be a part of it.

The NYPD provided a warm "welcome to crooklyn' greeting at 11am...

A line grows in brooklyn, and yes Mr. Rebel, FUCK YOU TOO! (see that guy in the middle, with the finger up?)

Going.... down?

NYPD cruisers get set to drag race the BHRA van. Well, maybe not. Bob Diamond arrives with the paperwork, and they go away... warning that they want more notice before anyone goes shutting down a lane of traffic on their turf.

A line continues to grow... and grow, and grow. Lord only knows how many people ultimately had to be turned away from the event.

Conclusionz: I barely ate a thing all day, and was out all night the night before with a massive gathering of peoples, including the ever entertaining Outlaws. Despite such insanity, it was utterly gooey to 'share the stage' with many folks I've admired for awhiles now, such as Art Star Hackett of the Madagascar Institute, Margaret Morton, and Fuckin' REVS. Danke Shun to all my peoples that came out, with apologizes to those that couldn't get in due to the insane lines... As Han Solo might say: "IT'S NOT MY FAULT!!!"

As one old man in the tunnel was quoted as saying "jimmy anastolia - i love his work"
