Clean train hits

What’s the Goss
The last two weeks have seen some big ass spikes in subscribers to this newsletter so—for all you new folks—welcome! And if you like what you see, forward it around to anyone you think will enjoy what is perhaps the only serious urban exploring newsletter on the web today.

Last week I mentioned how a museum train in NYC got tagged up and none of that sat right with me, so I wrote up some words on it. Crime is crime and it has no rules, until it does.

LOL get a load of this UK couple that is selling their house because they swear there are foreign migrants living under it doing forced labor and having sex. To make their case, they lived in a van and drove around the country for three years telling people all about it, because that makes the absolute most logical sense ever. I hope they use some of the cash from selling it to invest in their mental health. Wherever they decide to live next, I hope it won’t be this house

Shorty’s Short Shorts:
NY Times has some follow up reporting to last week’s CDMX transit viaduct collapse. It’s not wild to see how experts predicted major problems and the result was as expected…

File under extremely gross: a massive 300 ton fatberg has been discovered, and it will take construction crews at least a month to remove it.

Not really exploring related, but this story about IT people being worried about what sort of hacks may have taken place in their hastily ‘abandoned’ offices is quite the fun read if you’re a geek.

Abolish the NY/NJ Port Authority
? I say yes. They had one job: build a freight rail tunnel under NY Harbor. They failed. Now the agency is a dumping ground for all kinds of NY/NJ fiefdom projects with little to no accountability. Just where the fuck is all that toll money going, anyway?

You hate to see it: demolition has restarted on the old Lambton Generating Station in southwestern Ontario, Canada.

HEY Y’ALL COME GIT YOUR BAN-DOH HO-TELLS SHOO-WEE! PASS THE GRITS!

More news about that massive new tunnel project in Finland is popping up and let’s hope it happens and gets explored the fuck out of.

Vancouver has a growing fatberg problem and I’d bet most cities have similar issues but are too damn embarassed to talk about it.

An old stone church that has been under water for decades has recently reappeared as the result of a draught in Mexico.

Speaking of things under Mexico, yet another El Chapo drug tunnel has been discovered. E*on M*sk wishes he could build tunnels this quickly and cheaply.

Abandoned Building BBQ
IDK how we’ve got no big fires to speak of this week but I’ll take it.

And that’s a wrap…
So I read on teh interwebs that if you get the vax you get microchips and honestly I’m disappointed. If I got chips then shouldn’t I also be giving birth to and pooping out small robots who I could then control and use to take over the world? Ah well, guess I’ll have to go back to stacking loot, guns and MREs.

You really want to sign up for the newsletter version of these updates. It comes out Mondays or Tuesdays, while we post this web version online on Thursdays or Fridays. This week I’m making a rare exception, considering how absolutely fast news is breaking.

Comments

NOTE: It sometimes takes a short while for comments to be approved - unfortunately there's a lot of spam comments that come in. I absolutely love when y'all share personal stories of friends relatives etc who worked in these places. It really helps capture what these places were like before they closed up shop.

If you're feeling salty, argumentative comments completely devoid of facts (supply links to support your argument) will not be published. Got a case to state? come with the details.
