Yeap, took last week off… so let’s catch up quick eh?
‘Bando News and Messy Views
There’s a rumor going around social media that Bob Diamond has passed away. Bob uncovered the old Atlantic Avenue tunnel in Brooklyn, and held a lease on it which allowed him to give tours. In 2010 his relationship with the DOT fell apart, and they revoked the lease. His BHRA project, geared towards bringing a streetcar to Red Hook, was also blocked by the city. A true visionary, it is sad that much of Bob’s work never came to fruition.

CNN’s got some interesting content lately: exploring abandoned towns in Qatar, an overview of the Iranian Railway, and perhaps a bit more grim, how a few corpses were found in a ‘bando in the Philippines.

That New Tunnel Smell
Elon Musk has proposed building a tunnel from downtown San Antonio to the airport because after you’ve seen both, you’ll want to stick your head in the sand.
Yet another drug tunnel has been found under the US/Mexico border.
“A new report released on Thursday by the Alma Center, which researches security challenges to Israel from Lebanon and Syria, exposed what it described as a large-scale inter-regional Hezbollah tunnel system in different parts of Lebanon. The tunnel system is designed to move personnel and weapons around and out of the sight of the Israel Defense Forces.’” I doubt it exists but it sounds cool as shit.

Nearly every week we’ve got stories about ababdoned buildings burning up but rare is the perspective of firefighters who have to put out these fires without dying. Interesting read if you’re into this sort of thing.
