Photo Journal: April 2018. Film Noir Edition

Published on: April 27th, 2018 | Last updated: July 18, 2018 | Written by:

This last month I finally got around to using an old roll of Tmax 3200 iso film that I before it expired, sometime before 2003.

My intent was to use most of this film underground. Unfortunately, the results from this tunneling trip were subpar. However – that was only half the roll.

The rest was shot in an extremely long abandoned, very old NYC hospital building. This place is rotting out hard. The floors have pulled away from the walls in several rooms, collapsing downward to the floors below.

Here, the grainy 3200 created a creepy 1950s feel. The black and white nature of this film only added to it, as the building in question is almost entirely devoid of color.

The results are unlike anything I’ve shot in a very long time.

NOTE: It sometimes takes a short while for comments to be approved - unfortunately there's a lot of spam comments that come in. I absolutely love when y'all share personal stories of friends relatives etc who worked in these places. It really helps capture what these places were like before they closed up shop.

If you're feeling salty, argumentative comments completely devoid of facts (supply links to support your argument) will not be published. Got a case to state? come with the details.

Color is nice, but b & w gives pics a special look.

Thanks — yeah I definitely need to do more of these. It’s a little less predictable but a lot more fun.
