In 2004, Myself and a photoblogger (back when that was a thing) set out to get onto the abandoned platform at 63rd street.

The abandoned Canal Street J/M/Z platform
For whatever reason I’ve never bothered to post photos of this station, despite myself and Ntwrkguy being the first to explore the place mere hours after it closed.

Abandoned Station Entrance: 21st Van Alst

A few weeks after 9/11, we conducted a fairly brazen raid on the abandoned mezzanine and entrance of this station located along the G line in LIC. We had to tactically evade police when leaving, but it was well worth the effort.

Abandoned Station Entrance: Bowery
A decade ago, myself and ntwrkguy were the first to explore the newly abandoned queens-bound Bowery station. 2nd Ave Subway Station Construction
The NYC MTA is undertaking a massive
cash-tossproject to extend a subway tunnel under 2nd Avenue on the Upper East Side. This project was originally proposed in the 1920’s. A few small sections of it was built in the 70s, though nothing came of this project until the last 10 years. Today, actual construction is underway.

This long abandoned area seems to have once been used by workers to slack off while on the job… you don’t see a lot of nooks like this anymore -

The Abandoned Cortlandt Street station and the 9/11 Line

On September 11, 2001, the tunnel used by the 1 train in lower manhattan was destroyed through the world trade center site. Debris and iron beams punched through the ceiling of the tunnel, partially caving in the Cortlandt street station and sections of tunnel between stations.

Myrtle Ave Abandoned Station and Mezzanine
Growing up in 70s/80s NYC, I always loved coming home from Coney Island. I’d be up at the front of the train (usually some graffiti covered R-30 or R-40 cars) eagerly awaiting the approach to the Manhattan bridge where I could stare out at the dark mystery world known as Myrtle Avenue.
