The Ridge Bridge

This is a very unique spot in the NYC subway system for a variety of reasons.

First off, it is above the ground, yet still below the street. You figure it out…

Second, it is home to the Second Revs journal page (which I’m not posting a photo of – it’s best read in person).

Third, it was built as a provisional space to hold 2 more tracks, neither of which exist now or are likely to exist any time soon. The original intention was for this subway line to be a whole lot more busy than it is today. But like so many other plans for future subway system expansion, nothing has come of it and this space has become a strange orphan in an oversized system…

Hey nice shoes..

Oh, and least we mention the newly repainted & reword emergency exit? When was the last time you saw a beautifully cleaned emergency exit?

Is this on the A line between Dyckman and 207? I swear I saw that journal page out the window one day when the train was going really slow up there… I was trying to read it but all I could remember was “Dear Society”…

Nope – I obviously don’t want to give it away, though I can say it’s at the other end of the system.

Awesome website, first I’ve seen of it. Wish you guys would not leave me guessing locations. However, I am going to guess this is between Bay Ridge Avenue and 59th street on the R line by the Bay Ridge towers.

I came here around 3 times in the past month, and the last time I came I found $15 on the provisional space closest to the “opening” in the wall. They were crisp brand new bills, and it seemed very suspicious. I don’t know what to think of it.

Found it with a little bit of help from Vanshnookenraggen’s track map and wikipedia. It really is just as described: an actual bridge, with the street on top. For the sake of fun trying to find it, I’m not giving it away. >:)
