The NYC subway system is massive, and not too surprisingly there are large sections of this system that are not publicly accessible.

Everyone already knows about the abandoned stations, but lesser known are the abandoned and closed mezzanines and entrances that dot the system. Many were closed due to low usage and crime prevention – creating a left over taint from the ‘bad old days’ of NYC.

Here at East Broadway on the F line, one can find a full length mezzanine above the station platform. Part of it was tiled and used in passenger service, while the rest was left unfinished – perhaps originally intended for maintenance use.

Looking down at the tracks. A good place to yell “Hello down there! This is god! Repent!”

Today, these closed entrances sit vacant, unused and unseen by the public.

NOTE: It sometimes takes a short while for comments to be approved - unfortunately there's a lot of spam comments that come in. I absolutely love when y'all share personal stories of friends relatives etc who worked in these places. It really helps capture what these places were like before they closed up shop.

If you're feeling salty, argumentative comments completely devoid of facts (supply links to support your argument) will not be published. Got a case to state? come with the details.
