What we found in this ‘bando companies’ press portfolio.

Abandoned buildings are often a haven for forgotten paperwork. Untold useless piles of invoices, employee records and meeting minutes filling shelves, offices and store rooms around the globe. No one other than the occasional quizzically inclined explorer will ever sift through these universes of Psocoptera filled wonder.

While you’ve no doubt seen some photos of these piles on this site over the years, It is rare these paper piles yield anything of mention. This is one of the rare exceptions.

Before the old Il-Makiage warehouse & lab facility across the street from 5ptz was bulldozed, we found this old portfolio of their press clippings and advertisements outside. It contains a weird trip down 1980s memory lane best seen to be understood.

Inside, there were magazine clippings, some of which did not age well at all. This one filled with ‘morning after’ beauty tips for women is… something.

Some of their magazine ads were preserved in here. How 1980s are these photos?

There were some minimalist ads in here too.

I presume this is a photo of Ilana Harkavi, Il Makiage’s founder. Not sure who the dorky guys are.

This magazine photo was just ridiculous. I presume the models are wearing il-Makiage makeup. That retru 70s/80s Mack FDNY truck tho…

As with all things 80s & beauty related, there was an element of softcore porn to some of these.

Last but not least are these three Molly Ringwald photos. Again, we can probably presume she was modeling il-Makiage product.

In many ways, this portfolio provided a really nicely packaged time portal back to when this company was in it’s prime. To find it in such great condition was a treat that I knew I had to share with the internets.

NOTE: It sometimes takes a short while for comments to be approved - unfortunately there's a lot of spam comments that come in. I absolutely love when y'all share personal stories of friends relatives etc who worked in these places. It really helps capture what these places were like before they closed up shop.

If you're feeling salty, argumentative comments completely devoid of facts (supply links to support your argument) will not be published. Got a case to state? come with the details.
