Is the Brooklyn Navy Yard is the secret Hollywood of the east coast? Something new is filmed here every day.
Back in the day, some of the buildings within the yard were rented for video production, and the larger props would be left outside. I never really knew what weird prop I might find sitting just around the corner, awaiting trash collection or use in the next scene. It made walking around the yard an exciting adventure.
These days, Steiner Studios is has condensed their production to newer buildings on the far east side of the yard. You’re less likely to find a random airplane cut and laying about, though it’s Brooklyn. You never really know.
As usual very direct and succinct. Love the garbage full of discarded lines.
Any future piece on Bayside Fuel in the offing?
Oh heck yes. It’s on the long backlog. Sad to see it go.
Are any other Brooklyn Navy Yard facilities up for sale by any chance?
I forget offhand which agency but the city still owns property and manages it. Not sure if there’s any scruffy buildings left in there at this point.
