‘Bando News and Messy Views
Probably the biggest story out of NYC is how Rikers Island is practically being abandoned as we speak. And by abandoned, I mean inmates are still being stuffed onto it whole most of the corrections officers refuse to show up for work. The result of this is horrifying—especially when you consider a large percentage of the inmates are people who can’t afford a small amount of bail. No food, no medication, having to shit in a bag in an overstuffed cell with 40 other people, locked in for days on end? What third world nonsense is this?
People squatting in abandoned buildings have it better than those locked in Rikers. Never mind pandering to these corrections ‘officers’ to get them to do their jobs—fire them all and shut the whole place down. It sounds disgustingly inhumane.
Speaking of abandoned buildings, the ‘New Market’ Fulton Fish Market building is finally being torn down. It had sat abandoned for years, as plans to save, redevelop or tear it down swirled through the abyss of NYC zoning politics. Earlier this year, the building was the site of a rather horrible murder. This one really hits me. I loved visiting this building—it was one of very few noteworthy abandoned buildings in NYC. Hanging here scribbling on walls and shooting portraits on the roof was never a bad time.
Gotta love this backwards ass NY Times report about the massive flooding in Zhengzhou earlier this summer. Bitch, NYC wasn’t ready for Ida either.
If you haven’t heard about the Burj al Babas resort yet, you’re missing out.
The Berkman II building in Jacksonville is about to kiss the donkey.
