Tomb Ov The Unknown Tunnel

This is quite possibly the most unknown, undocumented section of subway tunnel currently available.

What we have here is a provisional tunnel, built with the intent of connecting it to a whole new subway route which unfortunately was never built.

It’s almost impossible to find, and for the moment we’re not going to give any real clues. Mysteries like this one keep people exploring. Not everything needs to be detailed online. The best finds are the ones you come across in person or are introduced to via peers (whose trust you’ve earned)

Indeed, we’d never have known about it if it wasn’t for the amazing persistence of some of the older cats out there. As I like to say, if we seem large sometimes, it’s because it’s on the shoulders of giants.

Would be a good place to play with lights – there’s no light at all down here.

A Note on ‘Gatekeeping’
Most of the subway content on this site was written twenty years ago and purposely left with vague information. No one was seriously exploring subway tunnels at the time (literally, no one other than us).

These posts were literally designed to get people get out exploring, and to find places on their own, like we did before the open-book test of the internet and social media even existed.

Fast forward twenty five years (2026 present day) and there are hundreds (thousands?) of people exploring in NYC. ALL of this information is now online elsewhere. That wouldn’t have happened if the mystery of posts like this one didn’t get more people exploring. NYC wouldn’t have so many amazing explorers today finding things we never did if it wasn’t for that mindset.

It’s not gatekeeping, it’s inspiration. And if you’re too lazy to be bothered doing it then go back to watching TV.

The mindset is simple: Go. Find the doors, find the access points. Do you. And don’t ask for hand outs.

Congrats on finding the origin story, and if you figure out where this spot is, congrats on passing the open book test known as the internet. Now strap on some boots and find something no one has seen before.

TunnelRat is a tunnel god. He knows about spots that the MTA doesn’t even know exists.

Been there a few times, just never posted it. Spots like this are what makes NYCs subways awesome.

Control, Bad Guy Joe and the LTV Squad:

I owe you all an apology. I do all my internet surfing on my cellphone (small screen) and I give you my sincere word that I missed your P.S.at the bottom under your last photo where you said “PS: If you know where this is, don’t comment.” Had I seen it I would have happily honored your request and not posted the location. All I can say is I BLEW IT! 100% MY FAULT. I APOLOGIZE AND TAKE BACK THE ‘DICKHEAD’ INSULT. I’m a NYC Transit Tower Operator and I have an enormous (secret) knowledge of our system as well as the LIRR. I have authored two books on NYC Transit called “TWELVE HISTORICAL NEW YORK CITY STREET AND TRANSIT MAPS – VOLUMES 1 and 2”. I have privately visited an overwhelming majority of the locations you post about. The only difference between us is I’m track safety certified and do my system walks during service shutdowns…It’s safer that way. Quite frankly I’m surprised we’ve never bumped into each other during jaunts. I love your photo essays and hope you continue posting them. If you have any questions I am happy to answer them.
