Graffich!
A new addition ot this newsletter will be the occasional graffiti news story – and this one is pretty hilarious. Two writers painted the back of a highway sign in North Kakalakly and shooo-wee! Locals be like oh my! Come for the over the top southern reactions, stay for the hot reporter spraypainting over the camera (no drips – smooth motion – I know a writer when I see one!!!)

Bando Babble
…there’s this fluff piece about a photographer of bando’s out in Ohio. It’s a bit basic (re: stereotypical ‘urban explorer ethics’ type deal) but her photos are great. Also I can relate to the surfing for hours on google views…

Insider has another bit about “the new moles”—the homeless who live in drain tunnels under Las Vegas. Theirs is a particularly harsh life, with their property washed away every time the tunnels are flooded during storms.

In Kansas, a government office building was literally abandoned by a now discredited, right wing fringe lunatic governor. It’s such a metaphor.

I low key didn’t get to mention last week that there was a fashion show on the abandoned Bowery street subway platform in NYC. Way back in the day me and “C” were the first to visit that platform after the MTA closed it. I’m a fan of having these deep cut claims to fame btw.

Remember that auction for a former sanitarium in upstate NY? YEE HAW! A guy from Texas won the bidding at $55,100. We will see if his pockets are as deep as a Texas oil well, because he’ll need to spray a virtual fountain of cash cleaning up and securing this property.

Developer Blight is also a thing in Canada.

Explorers are still all up in that Brexitland Press. This time with photos and videos from Liverpool.

…One Less Bando!
Lightning struck a bando in Grand Rapids, MI, and I lost brain cells listening to witness accounts of it. You know the story now, no need to click anything.

The facade of some abandoned shithole in Chicago collapsed this last week. Call Psy that building needs some New Face. Or something.

Out in Colorado a picturesque bando house burned to the ground. Now where will the Instagram influencers go?

While it hasn’t been destroyed yet, efforts have stirred up to save the Demarest building in Manhattan. Betting is now open on how long before it “mysteriously” bursts into flames in a fire that FDNY will no doubt declare “suspicious” and never investigate, before the “developers” construct their 26 floor glass tower and sell apartments to billionaires.

A small ‘bando lit up in downtown Atlanta, just two blocks from a fancypants hotel I stayed at the night before. Which brings me to this conclusion:

They All Up In It.
Driving around Atlanta this last weekend, I came across tons of really gritty abandoned spots, all of them filled with random homeless people and sketchy folks like the guy who saw me roll up, pretended to walk away, then came back in my direction taking off his shirt as if he was ready for a fight. To which I pulled down the ski mask and samurai sword!

Ok that last part didn’t happen but reality was pretty anti-climatic, with a nod between us as we went on our separate ways.

SHUT IT DOWN.
Tomorrow is #ClimateStrike. If at all possible, take a day off for protest. Protesting works. Strikes Work.

Comments

NOTE: It sometimes takes a short while for comments to be approved - unfortunately there's a lot of spam comments that come in. I absolutely love when y'all share personal stories of friends relatives etc who worked in these places. It really helps capture what these places were like before they closed up shop.

If you're feeling salty, argumentative comments completely devoid of facts (supply links to support your argument) will not be published. Got a case to state? come with the details.
