Getting in is easy. If you’re a famous explorer they just let you…

What’s The Goss?!
I swore I wasn’t doing a newsletter for two weeks but here we are.

I’ll keep at them but the weeks and months ahead may be wild and the schedule on these (email newsletter early in the week, web post later) may become more like twice a month vs. once a week. We’ll see…

Anyway! The big explore news is that Driftershoots was arrested in Arizona last week. I mentioned his coming legal troubles in a newsletter a month ago. I only know what I’ve seen from the news but the fact that cops were able to track him means that they definitely tapped his social media, pen registers, etc, and literally tracked him across the country.

Listen if you’re going to try to go for big fame as an explorer, you need a burn phone. Buy it with cash, and use it only for crime. Replace it frequently. Otherwise you’re just inserting a tracking device to your asshole without using lube. You’re better off Feltching.

Drifty is in some serious shit, and honestly I don’t think all the cash in the world for an amazing lawyer will keep him from doing time somewhere. At least two states want him. He could end up in the classic NYC graff writer grind, where each of the 5 boros charges and multiples the sentences. Utah & Ether did time in NYC and Boston. They were actually lucky other US cities didn’t go after them.

To be sure, these charges are all trumped up. He didn’t steal anything, and he likely got into all these spots the same way you and I do: social engineering, lackadaisical underpaid sleeping security guards, unlocked doors, and/or just walking right in. The higher charges were definitely to get the warrant.

Like I said a month ago, I hope after he’s done with these cases and any jail time (I’m assuming at least 2 years here hung up in courts, time served, etc) that Drift gets out and finds a way to parlay this fame into something awesome. There’s an amazing book to be had here, perhaps even an amazing movie. His story is pretty unique, and from that one time I met him, he seems of sound mind. Really hoping for the best in the long long term, cuz the immediate future may not be glamorous.

Subway Madness:
By now you already know about the secret subway system under the Capitol, yes? It is, after all, how elected officials escaped the building during last week’s banana republic Trump insurrection.

One subway operator, two 12-9’s in a week. I really hope the MTA gives this guy some PTSD time off and a shit ton of re-assurance that it’s not his fault.

Shorty’s Short Shorts
Look at these stupid billionaires planning to build a whole new tech city in Texas (complete with tunnels), where one can only presume they will be in charge of the government as well. Gee unchecked tech companies doing whatever they want what could possibly go wrong?

There’s going to be some new 5Ptz inspired interactive graffiti thing at the new LaGuardia airport terminal and what the fuck is this? Buy my Exploring 5ptz book instead. It’s way more fun and doesn’t include one of the worst commutes to an airport in the world.

An old stadium in San Diego is being demolished very slowly, because implosions are very toxic affairs…

Bando BBQ
Curious and Bored” drunk ass PennsaTucky man set an abandoned hotel on fire is really on par for that 2021 energy.

Some POS building in NOLA burned and two floors of obvi burned bando? Meh. DO BETTER NOLA!

A very large abandoned funeral home in Jacksonville burned to the ground last weekend. No word on if any corpses were left behind ๐Ÿ™‚

International Update
Hamburg (germany) is plotting on building a big new road tunnel and while this story is paywalled, it’s worth googling more about if you’re looking for that new tunnel smell.

LOL there’s a tunnel in Iran where you have to walk over Israeli and American flags to get in. GOOD. #FreePalestine

Australia stored Mustard Gas in an abandoned rail tunnel during WW2 and this story is some fun sleuthing to say the least.

Want a home with secret hidden rooms? St. John (newfoundland) is apparently the place to go.

This is Nigeria. Secret tunnels be tripping now.

And that’s a wrap…
Let’s see if the United States survives the week eh? I’ve got doubts. You should too.

Get this news earlier!
You really want to sign up for the newsletter version of these updates. It comes out Mondays or Tuesdays, while we post this web version online on Thursdays or Fridays. This week I’m making a rare exception, considering how absolutely fast news is breaking.

NOTE: It sometimes takes a short while for comments to be approved - unfortunately there's a lot of spam comments that come in. I absolutely love when y'all share personal stories of friends relatives etc who worked in these places. It really helps capture what these places were like before they closed up shop.

If you're feeling salty, argumentative comments completely devoid of facts (supply links to support your argument) will not be published. Got a case to state? come with the details.
