These commutes are going to hell…

ONE MORE BANDO!
Yup, NYC is trying to close allllll the jails on Rikers Island. There is a plan emerging to have it done by 2026. The new Rikers island is probably already planned out in various real estate developer’s offices. Those developer Friends Of Trump are salivating at what a huge land grab Rikers will become, while us nimble explorer trash pandas are secretly plotting how to get in and explore it before anyone else.

The Chalfant Show
Did you know that Henry Chalfant only trespassed twice into NYC subway yards way back in the day, while documenting the exploding 1970s graffiti movement? Regardless, he’s got a show up and running in the Bronx that is apparently super worth checking out. If you’re kinda baked though and don’t want to get off your couch you can just read this fab Hannah Frishberg article on him (you might recognize her from some shots in my IG).

Sacrifice to the Tunnel Gods
If you’re into subway tunnels, don’t be stupid. Running track in no clearance, cross river subway tunnels at rush hour is a death wish, and the tunnel gods will claim unskilled souls who believe otherwise.

Rockaway Beach Review
The Daily News gets their NUMTOT on, wilding out about the inflated, insane cost projections associated with reopening the LIRR Rockaway Beach Branch. They are 100% correct, and I’ll be digging into the details on this soon. If you’ve seen my prior articles on this topic, you absolutely know where I’m going with this.

Ghoulish Ghoulingtons
A decomposing body was found in a Birmingham Alabama ‘bando by two explorers. The body has yet to be identified, and al.com has a surprisingly detailed description of the corpse, geared towards hopefully getting an ID.

Hell Gate Runners
According to multiple social media reports, three kids ran three miles across Hell Gate Bridge, from the Bronx into Queens. NYPD deployed a boat to follow them along the East River before their Helicopter arrived. Two of the three were caught in Woodside, while a third has temporarily escaped. We’ll see if his pals snitch on him. When that ghetto bird comes, you gotta split up, and shut up. They can’t follow you all!

KPPC swastikas
Much to the disturbance of Governor MTA, swastikas were found on the exterior walls of one of Kings Park’s abandoned hospital buildings. There’s no word on when NY’s favorite politician explorer will enter some of the buildings and completely lose his shit over all the racist graffiti inside.

NJ Wind Tunnel
An explorer associated with Weird NJ found a ‘secret wind tunnel‘ somewhere in NJ and are you as shocked as I am? Weird NJ still exists! There’s no word on when this wind tunnel was last used but I suspect it involved hair products and Jersey Shore characters.

ONE LESS BANDO!
Oklahoma City is suddenly concerned about a vacant school was hit by an arson fire again last week (it was in our Bando BBQ round up). Apparently it has been hit by nine other fires since it closed in 2014, and the OKC public school system has four other vacant schools, with a single extremely lazy security person to check all of them. If you’re in that part of the world, you know what to do! Get them bandos before they gone!

Bando BBQ!
Speaking of burning Bandos, a very long abandoned Mason temple in Aurora, IL burned to a point of collapse. Fire also took out a former restaurant in Culver Indiana. That fire is now labeled as suspect, and is probably the most exciting thing to happen in that town in years.

Another building at the former Grandview Palace Borscht Belt hotel burned up. This property was almost completely destroyed in 2017 in what is described as “Sullivan county’s largest ever fire”. From the sounds of it, whatever is left will remain a bando for quite some time to come.

A severely overgrown house on Long Island burned down too. From the looks of it, Rocket needs to stop letting Groot play with fire.

There were some other bando fires, one in Vancouver, another in Miami.

Yeet that Infrastructure Week!
If you’re in DC on, be sure to grab a garbage scooter and yeet that shit on the nation’s worst funded lunatic asylum’s lawn.

International Round Up:
So, you want to live in a fancy house on a former WW2 gun placement? Brexitland has just that sort of thing.

If you happened to be in Rome last saturday you could have taken a free catacomb tour.

Did you know about Cape Town, South Africa’s storm tunnels? If not, the video narrator is delightfully weird.

Alright folks let’s wrap it up.
Fall is falling and winter is coming, and maybe just maybe here in NYC we’ll get some real city-closing snow chaos that will shut all this capitalism to hell while explorers graffiti artists and assorted effluvia run rampant in the streets. Time will tell what your really made of, and the tunnel gods are awaiting acceptance of your soul.

NOTE: It sometimes takes a short while for comments to be approved - unfortunately there's a lot of spam comments that come in. I absolutely love when y'all share personal stories of friends relatives etc who worked in these places. It really helps capture what these places were like before they closed up shop.

If you're feeling salty, argumentative comments completely devoid of facts (supply links to support your argument) will not be published. Got a case to state? come with the details.

Bad Guy Joe knows more about the NYC underground than anyone else on or below the surface of this planet. He has spent nearly 30 years sneaking into NYC's more forbidden locations. When not underground, he's probably bitching about politicians or building something digital.
